Chat

Ask questions about your documents in natural language.

Chat is the primary way to interact with Osprai. Ask questions in plain English or French, and the AI searches your documents to provide answers with source citations.

How it works

  1. Type your question in the chat input
  2. Osprai's AI decides which sources to search (your documents, knowledge graph, knowledge packs)
  3. The AI retrieves relevant chunks, verifies the answer against the sources, and responds with citations

Chat toolbar

The chat input has four action pills:

PillWhat it does
ActionsAttach files, filter by data source, organise chats into folders
ModelChoose which AI model answers your question (depends on your plan tier)
AgentSelect a specialised agent. Type @Kari for project-level assistance
PacksEnable or disable Knowledge Packs for this conversation

Grounding modes

The default mode. The AI combines document knowledge with general reasoning to give flexible, helpful answers. Best for exploratory questions and general inquiries.

Example: "What considerations should I have for installing speakers in a high-humidity environment?"

Every claim must be backed by a specific source citation from your documents. The AI will not speculate or use general knowledge. Best for verification and compliance-critical questions.

Example: "What is the exact load rating specified for the S52F truss in the loading table?"

You can toggle between modes in the profile dropdown in the sidebar.

Source citations

Every answer includes clickable source references. Each citation shows:

  • The document name it came from
  • The page number or section
  • A relevance score indicating how closely the source matches your question

Click a citation to see the original context in the source panel.

Conversation memory

Osprai remembers the context of your conversation. You can ask follow-up questions without repeating yourself:

You: What is the cooling capacity of AHU-01?
Osprai: Based on the mechanical schedule, AHU-01 has a cooling capacity of 45 tons... [source]
You: What about its airflow rate?
Osprai: The same unit (AHU-01) has a supply airflow rate of 18,000 CFM... [source]

Tips for better answers

Be specific

"What is the load capacity of the S52F truss?" works much better than "tell me about trusses". Include equipment names, model numbers, or section references when you can.

  • Use the right grounding mode. Strict for verification, Assistive for exploration
  • Upload relevant documents first. The AI can only search what's in your workspace
  • Enable Knowledge Packs for vendor-specific questions (e.g., "What's the max span for a PRG ground support?")
  • Ask in either language. Osprai handles English and French equally well
